Legacy Lends a Hand…and a Truck !

Faith In Action Silicon Valley Rotating Shelter provides meals, shelter and other supportive services for 15 homeless men at a time. The rotating shelter is housed and moves from one host church or synagogue to another each month. The Rotating Shelter provides case management, including assistance with job and housing searches, and overnight supervisors who provide leadership and mentoring for the guests each night. Carefully screened participants sign a contract to remain clean and sober, build up their financial reserves and seek employment and housing. The goal is to help participants move into permanent housing by the end of their stay.

The guests of the shelter may stay for an initial period of up to 90 days, with the possibility of extending the time if a client is progressing with his goals. Volunteers from local congregations and several community service organizations provide meals and donate equipment, groceries, bicycles and supplies for the program. Since re-opening the program in March 2012, 130 men have been sheltered and 65 of the 116 who have left the program, have moved into permanent housing.

Having to move on a monthly basis presents a problem that Legacy has been able to help with. Each month, Legacy donates a bobtail truck with a lift gate to assist with the shelter move.
